This Saturday, I will be baking some of (seemingly) everyone’s favourite: the almond croissant (and almond pain au chocolat).
Pick up will be at Perth Square Park — you can find me with a red Radio Flyer wagon (recently saved from the curb) on Saturday July 19 from 10-11AM. Must order in advance!
If you can’t make that, I am excited to be doing a pop-up the following Saturday July 26 with Chi Nguyen (@snax.nguyen) again at Secret Planet Print Shop at 918 Danforth Ave (tell your East End friends!) from 11AM until sold out.
Side note:
A couple months ago, I posted on Instagram about my issues with purchasing almonds (both almond flour and sliced almonds), since Canada does not produce almonds and the vast majority of our supply comes from California.
The easiest source for me has been Costco’s almond flour, a product of the USA. I tried ordering some Spanish almond flour online (at 3x the price). When it arrived, I turned the package over to see ‘Product of USA’. D’oh. Turns out being a product of Spain was not guaranteed and they source from Spain or USA based on availability. They offered to send me a bag of Spanish peanuts to compensate, but that wasn’t much help. Everywhere I’ve checked is California almonds. I am not particularly well versed or well connected in the world of ingredient sourcing, and as much as I dislike going back on my word, I’m reluctantly sticking to Costco’s California almonds until I can find other sources…
